Alkaltiri Attacks Xanana Over Land for Rubber Deal - Zenilda Gusmao Involved

TEMPO SEMANAL TV

Former Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, and Leader of the Opposition, Mari Alkatiri, has condemned Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao's deal to sign over 250,000 hectares of land (see full story in Tetun here) MALTIMOR Lda which is owned by Commander Tan Sri Datuk Eugenio Campos (a Timorese born Malaysian businessman) and Portuguese Consul to Malaysia.

In October 2007 Mr Campos met the Prime Minister Gusmao and members of his staff to discuss the possibility of Campos' future investments in Timor-Leste.

Campos expressed an interested in investing in the tourism, aviation, agricultural and infrastructure sectors

After several meetings in November 2008, Mr. Gusmao signed over the 250,000 hectares of land to Maltimor Lda. which is co-owned between Campos and his daughter Zenilda Gusmao.

The company proposed to use land for rubber plantations in Suai, Ainaro, Same, Vikeke and Lautem districts.  However, the Ministry of Agriculture has yet to approve the deal; and has indicated that there is no land available because some of the areas have been allocated for Heavy Oil plants.

First of all, I would like to inform that there is no single person that hold the two royalty titles in Malaysia, which carries Tan Sri Datuk. So I wish TS before posting any article need to have double check on the title in any country. Journalists try to minimize the errors in reporting because people are watching you out there. For your information, in Malaysia the Tan sri or Datuk is a honorable title given by the king or Sultans (in 13 states in Malaysia) the titles range from DATUK to Tun. The sequential of the titles will be like this : DATUK ---> TAN SRI --> DATUK SERI ----> TUN. Datuk is the lowest rank for the title and TUN is the highest rank of the titles. And there is no one that can hold two titles at the same time like TAN SRI DATUK (reported by TEMPOSEMANAL) I bet you to change this article ASAP or else the Royal Malaysia will sue temposemanal, this is very sensitive in Malaysia. So for the sake of your survival please do change.

Secondly, Investing the rubber plantation by the Timorese born Malaysian Businessman Eugenio probably good thing to do. And offering such contract will help to provide job opportunities to thousand of Timorese for both long and short term.

Timor leste is a poor country we have to open our door to other investors to invest in our country there is no way that we can live in our own. This is the only way that we improve the living of the people. This is the government's responsibility to give good incentives to the foreign investors to invest in our country. The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is encouraged in our country. The more we delay to make this happen the country will be more vulnerable in future, until the government out of control to handle things and there will be no hope the country recovery in near future.

Therefore, the politicians specially the opposition need to consider their claim based on the fact and economic of Timor Leste. Don't talk because you hate the Prime minister or any of the ministers in current government we need to cooperate with the government in order to have speedy development.

I totally agree with Ir. Luis who was saying that we need to be openly to the outsider/foreign investors to have their investment in our country in order to improve the living condition of our people. By providing/creating more jobs to the East Timorese youths in the short-term and long-term period in the country. Furthermore, it is truly for the benefits of our nation as whole. Once more jobs are created in the country the more stable our country is, because the youth won't be mocking around on the street to incite others. If the politicians won't cooperate with one another to support the country policy to have more foreign investors to invest in TL/ET, we will not be able to reduce the number of unemployment that has been risen up to 45% or above in the short and medium terms period.

Ir.Eng.Pereira seemingly has Timor leste interests at heart.Sassi Investigations into political-business arenas always involves the question"Is the organiser-negotiator-investor-creator operating with the correct authority? and what exactly is the Rubber plantation plan? In the vacuum of these items not existing and not channelled to correct TL departments a whole pile of babble starts up. Only the not too bright have buttons on self importance . DATUK means zero to people looking for work. The seething intrigue, lovely sounding royal malaysian titles, the pretended authority of malaysian persons has little value when business plans are not on the right channels.Commercially malaysia is on sale now selling off consumer goods at bargain prices. a failed attempt to compete with Hong kong. Malaysians are lacking the prestige of having a sphere of influence. No matter how noble the Rubber plantation plan one has to communicate it clearly to interested parties. Mike Sassi.
